The Bonin Islands (a.k.a. the Ogasawara, to the Japanese) are part of the Nampo Shoto, or islands starting near Tokyo and extending southward into the Pacific. Included within the Bonin Islands is a subgroup, the Volcano Islands, which is made up of the 3 Iwo Jima Islands. The islands are administered by the Tokyo government and considered part of Tokyo Prefecture.
