Situated in the scenic Sierra Nevada Mountains, Emigrant Gap is primarily known as a portion of the Overland Emigrant Trail. At this point, even after the Gold Rush, covered wagons were lowered by rope over the cliff to the floor of Bear Valley. This was one of the most dangerous parts of the trip.
