Greenville is located in Plumas county, California. It was inhabited by the Maidu tribe of Native Americans. The population in the 2010 Census was 1,129. It was a California Gold Rush town, and in more recent times, being surrounded by two national forests and Lassen Volcanic National Park, was popular for tourism.
In the summer of 2021, the Dixie Fire, burning in Butte and Plumas counties, reached Greenville and on August 4, destroyed about 75% of the town.
