The reservation, located in south central New Mexico near the city of Ruidoso, is home to approximately 3000 members of the Mescalero, Chiricahua, and Lipan bands. The town of Mescalero serves as the tribal headquarters.
The reservation is bordered by the Lincoln National Forest. The southern half of the Sierra Blanca range is within the reservation. The tribe operates a ski resort on Sierra Blanca Peak.
