Frostproof is a small quiet city surrounded by lakes in southeastern Polk County, midway between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean.

Originally named Lake Mont, it was renamed Frostproof following the freeze of 1896-1897 when it remained the only area untouched by the damage. Citrus remains the dominant industry.
