Roger Hargreaves - British author of children's books,
born 1935, Cleckheaton, Yorkshire, England, died 12 September 1988, Kent, England.
His most famous creations were the Mr Men series of books, with the first - Mr Tickle - being written in 1971. In all he wrote and illustrated 43 Mr Men books, and a further 30 books in the Little Miss series.
More than 100m books have been sold, making Roger Hargreaves the second best-selling author to Harry Potter creator JK Rowling.
