MIDI

MIDI, or Musical Instrument Digital Interface, is a protocol for sending digital information between electronic music instruments and equipment, including computers and signal processors (devices that modify sounds by adding reverberation, modifying pitch, and other means). The basic protocol addresses common functions, such as notes, timing, pitch, and pedal information. MIDI keyboards, guitars, violins, and drums have become as common as the synthesizer in electronic music. MIDI permits such instruments to be connected to one another and to computers, which are often used as sequencers (devices that control the output of musical instruments and signal processors).

Submit sites primarily concerned with the MIDI file type here. If your MIDI files are full-length, your site will probably be welcome here.

A category for websites containing original MIDI compositions, not just arrangements or sequences of commercially recorded popular songs. The original MIDI can be in any style: Classical, Jazz, Rock, Dance, Techno, New Age, Grunge, Latin, Solo Instruments, Tribal, Southwest, Swing, Blues, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Ska, Trance, Rave, etc., you name it. It can be one channel compositions up to full orchestrations. It can be done on a 3-octave keyboard, or it can be composed in a 128 track studio. It doesn't matter, just as long as it is of good quality and is ORIGINAL. Zipped

Sites where all MIDI files can be downloaded in a compressed format, most commonly as a ZIP file. Data compression reduces the size of a file, or groups of files of data by eliminating unnecessary information, such as blanks and redundant data. The idea of reducing the size is to save money on transmitting or storing the data. The file which has been compressed must be "decompressed", i.e. brought back to normal before use.
