Guitar is used more for rhythm than to play solos, and keyboards are often set to sound like horns and strings. Disco music is the funky, pulsating music of the 70s and early 80s (also the precursor to such dance styles as house, techno, and jungle). Disco brought the disc jockey to the forefront of nightclubs and discotheques, and the genre also brought on the first extended singles for a longer dancing experience. Characterized by a cymbal hi-hats and a non-stop 4/4 drum beat, disco was simply programmed for its listeners to "get down and boogie!"

Drum and Bass (also called jungle) is an energetic branch of electronic dance music and has its musical roots in the hardcore rave movement in the United Kingdom in the early 90s. Over its lifespan, the music has drawn in influences from such diverse fields as Jazz, Ragga, Hip-hop and R&B. The music is characterised by rapid breakbeats running at BPMs around the 170 mark. Whilst the music largely lives and was born on the dancefloor it has diversified into many different categories, some of which concentrate rather more heavily on the listener's sensibilities than their feet. As a result of the music's constant growth and mutation, drum and bass has been split into numerous styles and types. These include: Artcore, Techstep, Hardstep, Jump-Up, Liquid Funk, Ragga Jungle, Jazzstep and so on. Whilst some of these styles have been passing phases others have become the cores of the musics. Artists of note include: Goldie, LTJ Bukem, Blame, Adam F, Roni Size, Photek, Omni Trio, Breakbeat Era, Reprazent, Kosheen, DJ Hype, Andy C Labels of note include: Good Looking, Moving Shadow, Ram, Virus, True Playaz, Prototype, Liftin' Spirt, Valve, Metalheadz Albums of note include: The Logical Progression Series, Earth series, Reprazent by Roni Size, Dillinja presents Cybotron

Ghettotech is a form of electronic dance music that combines electro, hip-hop, techno, Miami bass, and Chicago house tracks amongst a peppering of most other dance music styles (jungle, drum and bass, R and B) at usually quite fast tempos, around 145 to 170 bpm. The Ghettotech style was created by a few DJ's mostly working in Detroit, and has existed there since about 1994.
House music's roots lie in the spontaneous combustion that was a handful of Chicago clubs in the early 1980s. In the days when clubs only needed one DJ, that DJ was in a position to make waves. And in a city where the clubs were usually soundtracked by jukeboxes, those waves could become a storm. In 1979, disco was pronounced dead by the media and it moved underground. Electronic music instruments and studio equipment had made their introduction and what I refer to as proto-house was born. The defining phase of house has its roots firmly in Chicago where DJ Frankie Knuckles had introduced New York styled clubbing and musical selection at the Warehouse. Cheap and small musical electronic equipment flooded the market. Instruments which made those old Trax records records we love. A footnote in house's history perhaps, but it is DJ Ron Hardy and his residency at the Music Box which are often associated with the rawer, sleazier sounds which would become house music. The eighties: While Electronic sounds had been in the European music scene since the mid to late seventies, the cheaper and more widely available Japanese electronic gear set off a musical revolution in Detroit, Chicago and New York. The music that this revolution set off was called techno, house or garage, depending in which of the previously mentioned cities you partied in. In the nineties, house is still the preferred name for a global style of music, like disco had been in the past, a catch-all phrase for a very eclectic style of music, centered around having a good time and most of all, having a great party. But it wasn't just American music laying the groundwork for house. European music, spanning English electronic pop like Gary Numan and Soft Cell, sparse German proto-techno by Kraftwerk, the more disco based sounds of Giorgio Moroder and Klein & MBO and Belgium's Telex were immensely popular in urban areas like New York and Chicago.
