Garland, Judy

Judy Garland was born as France Ethel Gumm in 1922 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She made her film debute in uncredited movie "The Big Revue" (1929). Judy was a famous child star in 1930s, winning popularity with films like "Pigskin Parade" (1936, Sairy Dodd), and "The Wizard of Oz" (1939, Dorothy Gale). 1940s offered her several memorable roles like Betsy Booth in "Life Begins for Andy Hardy" (1941), Jo Hayden in "For Me and My Gal" (1942), Ester Smith in "Meet Me in St. Louis" (1944), Manuela in "The Pirates" (1948), and Hannah Brown in "Easter Parade" (1948). Born Richard T. O'Brien in Portlaw, County Waterford, Ireland, Richard Garrick started his career as a stage actor. He went on to become a film director for the Gaumont Company, making films in England, France and the United States, as well as for the U.S. Military during World War I.

Garrick continued his stage career, appearing in dozens of plays - most notably, the original 1947 Broadway production of "Streetcar Named Desire".
