This section lists software platforms dedicated to managing and delivering online web courses. They also known as Learning Management Systems (LMSes), Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs), or simply "courseware". They mainly focus on higher education. These platforms enable teachers/institutions to create web sites with functions such as:
  • authentication (of learners and staff)
  • integrated communication facilities (mainly asynchronous but also synchronous)
  • integrated quiz engines
  • management and publishing of resources
  • tracking and reporting of student activities
  • delivery of training material
They are not just authoring tools. The content is often created with external software.

This category is for methods and theory related to instructional technology evaluation--determining the quality, merit, or worth of hardware, software, web sites, and instructional programs. It emphasizes the special characteristics of instructional technologies that affect approaches to evaluation.
This category is for sites about critically evaluating information retrieved on the Web, and NOT a place for businesses and consulting firms offering Web design evaluation services. Please see Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development and Computers/Internet/Consultants for a better place to submit such sites.
This category contains sites relevant to educational technology in higher (post-secondary) education. This is the place to find resources and information on how to use new technologies in the classroom, how to put your course on the world wide web, and how to use electronic communication to enhance communication with and between students. Note that sites which are not specific to higher education should usually be submitted to the generic Instructional Technology category.
