Digital

A digital library provides users with access to collections of electronic documents, and may contain a number of different file types including text, image, sound and multimedia or any combination thereof. While it may be associated with a physical library, a digital library can stand on its own without a physical counterpart. A digital library may also be referred to as: a virtual library; an electronic library; a hybrid library; or an electronic document collection. Please note that there is separate category for "printed literary texts available on the Internet" called Electronic Text Archives: Arts/Literature/Electronic_Text_Archives.

A Friends of the Library group is a not-for-profit organization formed to provide support for a library. Support provided by a Friends group may include fundraising, volunteering, programming, public relations, and advocacy.

A national library is a library established by the government of a country, and whose role is to serve as the preeminent repository of information for that country.

Only the web sites of the official national library of a nation are included in this category. Please do not suggest a site if its content has been either copied from other web sites or if the web site has unfinished sections (labeled "under construction"). Thank you.

School libraries, also called school media centers or learning resource centers, provide collections, services, and information literacy education for schools with students from the age of about 5 to about 18. This category is for the web sites of school libraries.
