Asan City is located in north central Chungnam province, bordering Gyeonggi province on the north. It also touches the West Sea (Yellow Sea), in the form of Asan Bay. Within Chungnam province, it is bounded by the counties of Dangjin and Yesan, and the cities of Cheonan and Gongju.
Boryeong County lies in southwestern Chungnam province, on the coast of the West Sea (Yellow Sea). It adjoins the counties of Seocheon, Buyeo, Cheongyang and Hongseong.

Buyeo County is home to the ancient capital of the Baekje Kingdom, which at its height ruled all the lands bordering the West Sea (or Yellow Sea). Geumsan County is located in the southeasternmost corner of Chungnam province, adjoining the provinces of Chungbuk and Jeonbuk along with the metropolitan city of Daejeon. Within Chungnam, it adjoins the city of Nonsan.
Gongju City was for some time the capital of ancient Baekje, a kingdom which ruled much of western Korea and neighboring China. It lies in eastern Chungnam province, touching Chungbuk and Daejeon. Within Chungnam, it adjoins the cities of Nonsan, Asan and Cheonan, as well as the counties of Yeongi, Yesan, Cheongyang and Buyeo.
Gyeryong is a city near Daejeon, in South Korea's Chungnam (South Chungcheong) province. A large percentage of the population is connected to the South Korean military. The city is one of the newest administrative districts in South Korea, having been carved out of neighboring Nonsan City in 2003.
Hongseong County is situated in west central Chungnam, and adjoins a portion of the West Sea (Yellow Sea) sheltered by the Taean peninsula. On land, it is bordered by Seosan and Boryeong Cities, and by the counties of Yesan and Cheongyang.

Nonsan City lies in southeastern Chungnam, adjacent to the metropolitan city of Daejeon and the province of Jeonbuk (Jeollabuk-do). Within Chungnam, it adjoins Gongju City and Buyeo County.
Seocheon County is situated in the southwestern corner of Chungnam, bordering the West Sea (Yellow Sea) on the west and Jeonbuk (North Jeolla) on the south. Within Chungnam, it is bounded by Boryeong City and Buyeo County.
Seosan City lies in western Chungnam province at the base of the Taean peninsula, adjoining the West Sea (Yellow Sea) to the south and north. It borders on the counties of Taean, Hongseong, Dangjin and Yesan.
Taean County lies in westernmost Chungnam, on the Taean peninsula. It is bounded by Seosan City and the West (or Yellow) Sea. It includes the rugged peninsula of Anmyeondo, site of the Taean Haean National Park.
Yeongi County lies in northeastern Chungnam province, adjoining Chungbuk on the east. Within Chungnam, it borders on the cities of Cheonan and Gongju.
