Downton is a village and parish spanning the River Avon, separated from  Salisbury, by Britford and  Odstock to the north.
The A338 takes road traffic from Salisbury to Hampshire border at Breamore.
Hale is the Hampshire parish on the east bank of the Avon,  Redlynch is directly east,
and  Whiteparish is to the north east.
