Cabazon is located in Southern California's desert region, approximately 20 minutes west of Palm Springs. Cabazon is the home of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, as well as many outlet stores.
It is generally accepted that Calabasas means pumpkin, squash, or gourd, derived from the Spanish "calabaza". Some historians hold the theory that it is merely a translation of the Chumash word "calahoosa", but since that also refers to some type of gourd, it only matters to linguists.

Every October, the City of Calabasas and the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce hosts a "Pumpkin Festival" to celebrate fall, the local wares and talents of Calabasas merchants, and of course, the pumpkin for which the city was named.

The City's official logo, depicting the red-tailed hawk flying over the Santa Monica Mountains, symbolizes a commitment to preserving the community's natural beauty and semi-rural quality of life. Source: City of Calabasas.

Calexico began as a tent city of the Imperial Land Company and has grown into a thriving city on the US-Mexico border.

Before the repeal of prohibition, Calexico was primarily a week-end town visited by workers in the Imperial Valley in pursuit of fun and games, dance halls and saloons in adjacent Mexicali, which was outside the United States and unaffected by the Volstead Act.

Although it gained a reputation for a while as a typical U.S.-Mexico border town with all the tawdry aspects usually associated with such places, the modern city of Calexico is a far cry from what it was back in those early days. Hundreds of acres are now being devoted to industrial parks use and commercial and retail incentives are being offered to encourage industrial development.

Since Calexico represents the mixing of two cultures and areas and because of its proximity to the Mexican border, the name Calexico was coined for a combination of Mexico and California. Source: City of Calexico

The small community of Caspar is situated along Highway 1 about halfway between Mendocino and Fort Bragg.
Most California communities can trace their roots to Indian villages and sprawling Spanish Ranchos, and Castaic is no exception. Jerry Reynolds, a late Santa Clarita historian, once wrote that the name "Castaic" had been spelled various ways through the years but the area was originally called "Kashtuk", an Indian word meaning "eyes". Native Americans, specifically the Tataviam, along with Spanish explorers lived, worked and enjoyed the lush green rolling hills and streams in and around Castaic, hundreds of years before the area became the community that it is today. Most local historians, however, consider the official birth of Castaic to be around July of 1915 when the California Highway Commission completed a trail over the tops of the mountains from Castaic to Gorman, called the old Ridge Route.

Castaic has a current population of 12,500, with the majority of its residents being between the ages of 25-34.

Cayucos, like most California communities, has a colorful history. Prior to the white man's entry, it is speculated that Native Americans most likely had hunting parties and even situated seasonal camps along the Cayucos coast. The earliest documented historical beginnings of Cayucos trace back to thriving ranches which preceded any organized settlements, such as a village. Names of notable families like Tognazzini, Donati, Righetti, Muscio dotted the landscape. Around 1855, a teacher by the name of John Baines realized the potential of the area now defined as Cayucos. He was soon joined by George Stone; together they founded the community of Old Creek at the crossroads of commerce connecting Paso Robles with the coast.

Cayucos is located on California's Central Coast, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Chinese Camp received its name in 1854, when a post office was established at the Camp Washington mining site. The town was named after the large number of Chinese inhabitants that had arrived to prospect for gold.
Chino's rich agricultural history dates back to the Spanish land-grant forming Rancho Santa Ana del Chino. The area specialized in orchards and row crops and was once the number one dairy area in the United States. While the City's motto "Where Everything Grows" was originally focused on agriculture, today it applies to growth in families, businesses and the strong sense of community. --Source: City of Chino

This category is for websites about information and organizations related specifically to the city of Colusa, and may contain links to related geographic categories, as well as to topical sub-categories.

Colusa, population 5,300:

At a particular bend in the river, Indians had made their home for hundreds, some say possibly thousands, of years. During the high water flood stage, occurring during and after the winter rains, this particular stretch of riverside stayed dry as the muddy waters swirled by the high bank. It also was a good place to trap steelhead trout for which the Indians used weirs (dam-like traps). Mistaken for salmon by the first white settlers in the area, the netted fish gave the area the name Salmon Bend. Later, the area was called "Colus" after the Indians that inhabited, which was then changed to Colusa. Source: Colusa Chamber of Commerce

Most Regional sites are listed according to the physical location(s) of the site's subject. Others are listed according to the geographic focus of the site, such as directories, membership organizations, governmental bodies, service agencies, businesses located in multiple areas, and those few types of business listed by service area.

This is a category for a specific locality. Websites pertinent to larger geographic areas such as counties, metro areas or states are listed in categories at these higher levels. See geographic category definitions.

Businesses or organizations with multiple physical locations are placed in the smallest geographic category needed to encompass all of their locations. See listings for multiple locations. A few types of sites are listed according to service area rather than physical location. See listing by service area.
