Every October, the City of Calabasas and the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce hosts a "Pumpkin Festival" to celebrate fall, the local wares and talents of Calabasas merchants, and of course, the pumpkin for which the city was named.

Capitola's beach is situated between two cliffs in a river valley. The river, Soquel Creek, is the site of the annual Begonia Festival where flower laden floats grace the river for a weekend in September.

The name Carlsbad is an Anglicized version of Karlsbad. It was named this in the 1880's to promote the town as a spa. The water from a well dug there was touted as having a mineral content almost identical to that of the famous spa in Karlsbad, Bohemia, now part of Czechoslovakia.

Today Coloma is known for Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park, educational programs about gold rush history and the foothills environment, and whitewater rafting and kayaking on the South Fork.
In 2000, Coloma established a sister city relationship with the Township of Clunes, Victoria, Australia, site of the first gold discovery in Victoria, which triggered a gold rush in that area.

In the 1890s a school was built and many cypress trees were planted around it. The school was named Cypress.
The city of Cypress was originally known as Waterville and then Dairy City. It was incorporated in 1956 as Dairy City, but the next year it was renamed Cypress, after the school and trees.
