Dubbed the "UFO Capital of the United Sates", Rachel is the nearest community to "Area 51," super-secret government facility. It is a base where many of the latest high-tech aircraft and other innovations have been tested, including the U-2 spy plane, SR-71 Blackbird and F-117A stealth fighter. The base is actually on restricted military land at Groom dry lake about 25 miles south of Rachel.

The town of Ruth is located seven miles north east of Ely, just off Highway 50.
