Known as Shannon county until May 2015, now officially named Oglala Lakota county, the population in the 2010 Census was 13,586. The county is in southwest South Dakota, entirely within the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Todd County, one of the poorest counties in the nation, is in south-central South Dakota, entirely within the Rosebud Indian Reservation. It doesn't have a county seat. Winner, in adjacent Tripp County, serves as its administrative center.
