The family Monodontidae consists of two species; the Beluga (Delphinapterus leucas) also known as the White Whale, and the Narwhal (Monodon monoceros). Both are a type of whale found naturally in the cold northern waters of and near the Arctic.
For information on whales in general and sites which may include the Beluga and Narwhal, please see: Science/Biology/Flora_and_Fauna/Animalia/Chordata/Mammalia/Cetacea.
The narwhal, Monodon monoceros, is a medium-sized toothed whale that lives in the Arctic. It is characterized by a long, straight, helical tusk extending from its upper left jaw.
