The current incarnation of the Eastern League started in 1938. Since 1963, the EL has been a Double-A league.

Connecticut

The Norwich, CT based Defenders assumed their current name for the 2006 season. Previously they were known as the Norwich Navigators.

New Hampshire

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats started play in the Eastern League in 2004, replacing the New Haven Ravens in the Toronto Blue Jays minor league system.
