Project A-ko is an animated movie first shown in Japanese movie theaters in 1985. The plot of this first movie has a schoolyard fight at a girl's highschool spilling over and foiling an alien invasion. The success of the first movie paved the way for five sequels, all of which have been subtitled and dubbed into English and other languages and adapted as two American graphic novels and a role playing game. The series is a spoof of many different Japanese anime series, but has a large following itself. Currently the series is available in VHS and DVD and two of the dubbed movies appear on the American Sci-Fi cable channel.
