Came from Mason City, Iowa, a small mid-western town fictionalized as River City in "The Music Man," a Broadway hit in 1957 and in later revivals. Also wrote "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" and "Here's Love." A rarity, one who wrote both words and music for his shows.
