Expressionism is a 20th century European art movement that accents expression of emotion rather than factual representation. The term can describe any painting that is primarily based in the release of the artist’s feeling and impulses. Expressionist works are often characterized by bold distortions of form and violent color. Forerunners of this movement were Vincent Van Gogh and the Fauves.
