Outside of this directory, makrhod was known as Doctor Amanda Bowen. She lived in Western Australia. When she joined DMOZ (now known as Curlie), she owned a number of Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs. The "rhod" in her editor name was short for Rhodesian. She later became involved in rescue groups for racing greyhounds and adopted quite a few of the dogs herself.

Amanda joined DMOZ in 2003, and with a few breaks, was part of the project until November 2014.

She passed away on January 10, 2021.
