Nattokinase is a natural enzyme derived from fermented soy and the bacteria Bacillus natto. The name "Nattokinase" was given to the enzyme by Dr. Sumi, a professor in the Department of Chemical Technology, College of Science and Industrial Technology, Kurashiki University of Science and the Arts, in 1980.
It shows promise as a fibrinolytic in the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases including thrombosis, hypertension, and stroke.
