Influenza, also called the flu, is a virus that causes a severe respiratory infection and spreads around the world in epidemics. It starts out like a cold, but soon gets much worse.
Symptoms include high fever, aches and pains, cough, sweating and shivering, and, often, vomiting and/or diarrhea. The worst is usually over in three to five days, but it may take two or three weeks to feel completely well.
