1965 saw the launch of the MGB GT, which had a closed version of the standard body. Appearance was essentially the same as the roadster, but the windscreen was slightly higher to allow for a higher roof. In the place of the roadster's small boot lid was a much larger hinged tailgate that provided access to the loadspace inside.
