This category leads to geographical websites devoted to inland lakes and lochs, within the British Isles.
This refers to the large bodies of non-tidal water throughout the UK, generally Freshwater,
fed from a catchment area of streams and rivers, and flow in to a River leading to the  Sea.
  • Some lakes do not have the word Lake in the official title, particularly in the Cumbrian Lake District,
  • whereas some have Water appended.
  • Loch or Lough are the preferred terms in Scotland.
Not all Lochs and Loughs are freshwater, and to varying degrees may be Marine, such as Stranford Lough in
Northern Ireland, and the ecology may be regarded as Estuarine.
