Plover is a tiny town (population about 95) in Pocahontas County. Founded in 1882 on high ground between Beaver and Pilot Creeks, and originally centered around its railroad depot, Plover was named for the bird of the same name.
In the late 1800's and early 1900's Plover was a bustling town with many businesses. Like many small Iowa towns, Plover is quieter now, but its residents are proud to call Plover home. Seventeen out of its 95 residents serve on the volunteer fire department. The town has a library and city park with basketball court, and Meredith Park, just north of town, provides swimming, fishing and camping.
Plover students attend the Pocahontas Area Community schools.
