Taroko is an Atayalic Formosan member of the Austronesian language family spoken by approximately 28,000 speakers in the Puli and south Hualien regions of Formosa (Taiwan). Alternate names include Taruku, Toroko, Truku, Toda, Sediq, Saediq, Seedik, Sejiq, Sedeq, Seedek, Seedeq, Shedekka, Sedek, Sediakk, Sedik, Sazek, Bu-hwan, Che-hwan, Daiyat-ataiyal, Hogo, Iboho and Paran.
