The Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI) is a NASA Small Explorer (SMEX) program mission launched on February 5, 2002 to study the basic physics of particle acceleration and explosive energy release in solar flares. The HESSI spacecraft was renamed after launch in honor of one of the co-investigators who passed away in 2001.
