This category includes sites discussing the abolition of a monarchy or de-recognition of a reigning monarchy as head of state, in favor of a republican form of government, and organizations which advocate or agitate for republic.
Academically, a republic differs from a monarchy chiefly in that its head of state derives authority from considerations other than heredity or nobility, and he or she is considered a citizen rather than a sovereign. In practice, a constitutional monarchy may differ from a republic only in that it calls itself such.
